Things to do

We love where we live, and we are sure you will love our little valley, but just a short distance from here in Moita Negra, there is so much to see, so much to experience. We like to think of Dolittle Holidays as a hub, a base from where you can explore the beauty and wonder of central Portugal.

UPDATE: there are beaches only a short drive away from us.

The coast is less than an hour’s drive and has huge sandy beaches, all with lifeguards and facilities. Figueira da Foz is a good sized town with lots of cafés and restaurants and lovely beach walk,

Vieira de Leiria is smaller, with fewer people around (which is nice). More touristy but still fabulous is the famous Nazare.

Inland there are numerous beautiful river beaches, none of which we have visited yet, but we’ll put pictures up when we do.

The Roman artefacts and mosaics in the Monumental Complex in Santiago da Guarda are well worth a visit, with a great view from the top of the tower.

There are other impressive viewpoints nearby:

Moita Negra’s very own windmill has lovely views and good walks in all directions.

Slightly further away at Outeiro (4.7km) is a fabulous view, also with a windmill and picnic area.

For more Roman ruins visit Rabaçal (12.3km) where there is also a museum,

and a couple of nice bars and restaurants. Near Condeixa you can visit the remarkable archaeology of the Ruinas de Conímbriga (23.2km). There is plenty to see outside as well as a museum and small restaurant.

The Knights Templar have left their mark on central Portugal.

The castle at Pombal has Knights Templar history

and the Convento de Cristo at Tomar (63.5km) is well worth seeing.
