We spent a fabulous long weekend at Dolittle holidays glamping site recently.
The bell tents are spacious, well kitted out and in a beautiful setting. Site owners, Dave and Ali are most welcoming and have developed a lovely site – a small valley flanked by eucalyptus trees on one side and orange trees on the other.
The site is in a very quiet corner of central Portugal about a mile or so from the nearest village, perfect if you want to really get away from it all! We enjoyed unwinding to the chirp of birds and the tolling of the local church bells (even if they don’t agree on the top of the hour!) the countryside around is very beautiful and the local lanes quiet so a gentle stroll around was a daily occurrence.
A simple but tasty breakfast was provided by Dave and Ali, served on the old threshing circle up by the house  overlooking the site just by the outside kitchen that was open to all. A great way to start the day. The site showers are in a block up by the house and are to a good standard, spotlessly clean and brand new!
Most local facilities are in Santiago da Guarda, shops, restaurants etc. We had a fantastic three course lunch inc wine  in Santiago at an outrageously cheap price! There’s a couple of quirky bars about a 15min walk from Doolittle site and a bread van comes careering along most days tooting its horn to let you know that it’s arrived!
Each tent has a very comfy double bed with a chair, small table hatstand etc. Deckchairs to relax in the warm Portuguese sun.
Dave and Ali were great hosts, very easy to chat with and were a goldmine of local info. However, they also left you to get on with your relaxing at your pace.
We would definitely recommend Dolittle holidays glamping as a base to discover this different part of the world and if peace and quiet is the aim this has it in bucketfuls!
